Billie's gone off to Florida for three, count 'em, three weeks. So human contact will be zero.
I'm on holiday next week too, and as I'm as broke as a 30 year old VHS player, the highlight of my week will probably be a blood test to check for an enlarged prostate. What fun...

“If I had a rose for every time I thought of you, I'd be picking roses for a lifetime.”
- Swedish Proverb
Somehow, somehow ( although I suspect a bottle of 14.5 % wine may have helped somewhat) I ended tonight reading through pages and pages and pages of early messages from my beloved Barbara on last.fm.
After about an hour I stopped, mainly due to the tears.
She was (is?) so funny, caring, beautiful and well, bloody perfect.
My biggest regret? Not having the courage to do what in hindsight was so blazingly obvious...
I probably don't have prostate cancer then. After a week or so of symptoms, my GP assures me it is nothing to worry about. I mostly believed her.
Billie is off to Florida for three weeks tomorrow. Sadly I am not.
Life is about as empty as an homoeopathic remedy.
Being rich would be some comfort at least.

“You live eighty years, and at best you get about six minutes of pure magic”
- George Carlin
I'm feeling pretty upbeat. I've had a lovely evening with my daughter.
she might be a grumpy teenager, but she's MY grumpy teenager, I love her
so...
Continuum - a new concept in Sci-fi shows, made in Vancouver, and set in Vancouver! No more changing road signs, license plates, carefully angled camera angles (I'm looking at you Fringe!). no just that most beloved of BC cities. Blatantly Canadian and good fun.
p.s. I must say how perfectly perfect the Mad Men finale was, for all its flaws, I love that show!!!

“To succeed in life, you need two things: ignorance and confidence.”
- Mark Twain
It's getting longer and longer between 'posts' isn't it? At one point this so called blog was full of my happiest outpourings, and my lowest ebbs. But not even I care anymore. So little happens, it's hardly worth stopping by to say how little happens.
I'm lucky to get a nod from my family these days, and my daughter is 16 and fully independent (save, of course the occasional Dad lift) I'm wondering what purpose I fulfil. My proudest achievement, my lovely daughter, is all grown up (she let me stay in the waiting room at the dentist today, first time ever), so at least I could die happyish. however since I'm an atheist, and not quite as depressed as i once was, I'm not quite ready to go, just yet. Surely there's someone out there who feels like I do?
(I'm currently listening to Paul Buchanan as I type, so that may be informing my mood somewhat...)

“Many's the long night I've dreamed of cheese - toasted, mostly.”
- Robert Louis Stevenson
What a dull week, or a holiday as I call it.
Plus the weather has been lovely, which makes sitting here all the worse.
When I had a nice garden, back in the old country, I never ever used it (except when ordered to cut the grass). Now that I have no 'outside', so to speak, all I want to do of a sunny day is go sit outside and read my book - a cruel thing, the mind.
I'd go sit in a park, if modern sensibilities didn't mean a middle aged man alone in a park is obviously up to no good.
And to think, I used to look down on people who sat on their front steps on a sunny day, at least they have steps.
Still it could be worse.
Oh, it is,
I'm back on nights on Tuesday, oh dear...
